Time to Trim Trees: Emerald Ash Borer Hibernates

If you have an ash tree in your yard now is the perfect time to trim it up or take it down.

The emerald ash borer, a beetle that attacks and kills ash trees, is hibernating until spring.

The beetle is inactive between Labor Day and May 1st most years, but since this year has been unusually warm, it was active through September.

Anoka County sent this picture out on Twitter. They said they spotted a group of wild turkeys picking through a corn field in Anoka County.

Rodent Bounty Hunters Could be Cut Off in St. Francis

People who bring dead gopher feet to St. Francis City Hall for $1.50 a pair, may need to find another way to earn extra cash.

City Clerk Barb Held tells KSTP.com the City budgets $700 a year for gopher bounties. Historically, the cash has been offered to help keep the gopher population under control. People are asked to bring in pairs of gopher feet as proof of a kill.

Spring Turkey Hunt Application Deadline Approaches

Turkey hunters have more time this year than they have traditionally had in the past to apply for this spring’s hunt, either electronically or by telephone. The deadline to apply for the 2011 spring season has been extended by about two weeks. Applications are now being accepted through Friday, Jan.

Statewide parade of gardens comes to the Twin Cities

 

More than five dozen community gardens in the metro will be showcased in a statewide parade next month.

The fifth annual Parade of Community Gardens will take place Saturday, Aug.

DNR To Propose New Rules On River Corridor Area

The Department of Natural Resources has been directed by the legislature to create new rules for development with the Mississippi River Critical Corridor or MRCCA.

This will affect any development or regulate land use, setbacks, height of structures, lot sizes, erosion control and so forth.
