Blaine High School Freshman Earns National Honor in Essay, Video Contest

A Blaine High School freshman was recently honored for an essay about Native American religious rights.

Ann Jerry was named a national finalist and earned an honorable mention award in this year's First Freedom Student Competition, which involved 1,842 high school students from around the world, according to the Anoka-Hennepin School District.

3 Anoka-Hennepin Seniors Earn $1K Scholarships from Comcast

Three Anoka-Hennepin seniors each earned $1,000 college scholarships from Comcast.

Malcom Seals of Anoka High School, Whitney Nietz of Blaine High School, and Cayla Callies of Coon Rapids High School will receive the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program prizes during a ceremony June 20 at the St. Paul Hotel in St. Paul.  The ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m.

The crash happened on the Highway 10 off-ramp to Foley Boulevard Northwest around 3 a.m.

Police in Anoka County are searching for a suspect who attacked and robbed a teenage girl in a popular park in broad daylight.

It happened around 5 p.m. Tuesday at Bunker Hills Regional Park in Andover.

"It's just really peaceful, safe ... everyone's really nice all the time," said Lisa Burke, who regularly jogs through the park.

A former Minneapolis police officer accused of sexually assaulting young girls has pleaded guilty to sending nude photographs of himself to two teenage girls in Hennepin County.
